FXUS64 KOHX 111129 AFDOHX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Nashville TN 529 AM CST Sat Jan 11 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 523 AM CST Sat Jan 11 2025 - Snow ending for the Plateau, but significant travel impacts linger area-wide through this morning. - Cold temperatures into next week, as cold as 20 degrees below normal midweek. - Temperatures below freezing during nighttime hours next few nights will re-freeze any melted snow, resulting in continued hazardous travel on secondary roads. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday) Issued at 120 AM CST Sat Jan 11 2025 The Winter Storm Warning will continue until 3 AM CST for the Plateau. Snow showers may still add a little to accumulations for the higher elevations as a trough axis moves across the area. Otherwise, a few flurries will linger through this morning, mainly east of I-65. Daybreak temps will be in the 20s under cloudy skies. These sub-freezing temps will cause areas of leftover slush to freeze, especially in untreated areas, so hazardous travel should be anticipated this morning. Clouds will hang overhead through the day with limited breaks or thin spots in the clouds west of I-65 this afternoon. Some areas will not reach freezing, but daytime radiation through the clouds will result in some snow melting and road improvement. Once again tonight, leftover slushy areas will refreeze and create some travel issues, especially for rural and secondary roads. Along with that, there will be some patches of freezing fog overnight that may add a thin glaze to surfaces. Lows will be in the teens to near 20. Sunday will be a big melt day with sunshine developing and highs in the lower 40s for most areas. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday Night through next Saturday) Issued at 120 AM CST Sat Jan 11 2025 A couple of systems will move through the region early next week, each with a reinforcing shot of cold air and each with potential for scattered flurries. The first will come Sunday night into Monday morning. Some guidance sources show small pops. The air looks pretty dry for measurable precip but scattered flurries were added to the forecast for all areas. The next will come Tuesday evening, ushering in some single digit lows midweek and highs mostly below 32. The GFS shows another little system for Wednesday night. Again, maybe some flurries. It is possible any of these systems next week could intensify a little and bring a quick burst of snow showers with minor accumulations, but it is too soon to know if any of them will. The next substantial precipitation chances will come next weekend as jet streams phase and a broad trough forms over the plains. NBM is showing warm advection for our area with all liquid, but the ensemble temperature spreads are large, so we will have to watch for some wintry potential with the system. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 523 AM CST Sat Jan 11 2025 A stratus deck will linger at the terminals today with MVFR cigs. There is uncertainty regarding the improvement of cigs to VFR but the general timing is late this afternoon into the early overnight hours at CKV/BNA/MQY/SRB. The likelihood CSV improves to VFR is lower, so MVFR/IFR cigs were maintained. Vis may deteriorate overnight at SRB/CSV mainly after 12/06z. Winds will be NNW/W today between 5-10 kts. Winds will decrease below 5 kts after 12/00z and back to the south. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
